The winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature for 2015 is Svetlana Alexievich from Minsk, Belarus. For offering in her work „a monument to suffering and courage”. „She’s offering us a history of emotions” the representative of Swedish Academy stated. Best known as a journalist, Aleksievich documented best of her books by interviewing witnesses to traumatic events in the history of the Soviet space. „These historical events that she’s covering in her various books, Chernobyl disaster, the Soviet war in Afganistan, these are, in a way, just pretexts for exploring the Soviet an the Post-Soviet individuals.” said the Academy Secretary.
The Prize was announced by Sara Danius, Permanent Secretary of the Swedish Academy in Stockholm.
Most recent winners of the prize were Patrick Modiano/2014, Alice Munro/2013, Mo Yan/2012, Tomas Tranströmer/2011 and Mario Vargas Llosa/2010.
