Gene Tanta reads poetry, pokes fun at Stalin and other poetic instalations in Pitar Mosi str. Gene said: “You are cordially invited to a poetry reading by Dr. Gene Tanta, American Fulbright Scholar 2012-2013. Please feel encouraged to spread the word.

I plan to read a few imagistic and surreal poems from Unusual Woods, my first poetry book, while discussing the writers influencing these poems such as Charles Simic, Linh Dinh, Rosmarie Waldrop, Russell Edson, Tristan Tzara, and Urmuz. I also plan to read from my just-completed second book of poems, Pastoral Emergency, which brings together Oulipian and Conceptual Writing to put into play possible new ways of conceptualizing the dual crises of ecological and linguistic instability. Some of the writers influencing this project are Raymond Queneau, Georges Perec, Vanessa Place, and Craig Dworkin. Also, I’ll be making fun of Stalin.”

Anul de poezie – A doua saptamană

8 ianuarie

doliente girasol. (sursa )

1933 – Ko Un, poet koreean.
Hei, vorbeai de vechiul Buddha?
De ce? vechiul Buddha nu e Buddha.
Adevăratul Buddha-i un peşte abia prins
Sare şi saltă (sursa )

9 ianuarie
1589 – Ivan Gundulić, poet croat (m. 1638).
“Fair liberty, beloved liberty, liberty sweetly avowed,
thou are the treasured gift that God to us endowed,
all our glory is thy true creation,
to our Home thou are all the decoration,
no silver nor gold, not life itself could replace
the reward of thy pure and sublime grace.” (sursa )

1728 – Thomas Warton, poet englez (m. 1790).
Long have I loved to catch the simple chime
Of minstrel-harps, and spell the fabling rime;
To view the festive rites, the knightly play,
That deck’d heroic Albion’s elder day;
To mark the mouldering halls of barons bold,
And the rough castle, cast in giant mould;
With Gothic manners Gothic arts explore
And muse on the magnificence of yore. (sursa )

1790 – Per Daniel Amadeus Atterbom, poet suedez (m. 1855)
Lo, as she speaks, a thousand starlights gleam,
Lighted for Heaven’s Christmas day they seem.
Sighing, he swears the oath,–the die is cast;
Into the mermaid’s arms he sinks at last. (sursa )

1873 – Hayyim Nahman Bialik, poet ebraic (m. 1934)
Pentru ca Dumnezeu primavara si macelul impreuna le-a chemat,
Soarele a stralucit, salcamul a inflorit, ucigasul a injunghiat.
Si ai fugit si ai venit in curte, iar in curte este un damb rau,
Damb pe care au fost decapitati doi: evreul si cainele sau. (sursa )

10 ianuarie
1894 – Pingali Lakshmikantam, poet indian (m. 1972)

1928 – Philip Levine, poet american.
“Down sat Bud, raised his hands,
the Deuces silenced, the lights
lowered, and breath gathered
for the coming storm. Then nothing,
not a single note. Outside starlight
from heaven fell unseen, a quarter-
moon, promised, was no show,
ditto the rain.” (sursa )

11 ianuarie
1910 – Nikos Kavvadias, poet grec (m. 1975)

1926 – Leonid Dimov, poet român (m. 1987)
În noaptea decolorată şi pustie
Se-aud trompetele de hârtie
Cumpărate de la moşi.
Priveşte cât suntem de frumoşi
Acolo-n vitrina fotografului de cartier,
Alături de măcelar, de fata popii, de bijutier,
Şi cât de bine ne-nţelegem, deşi suntem
certaţi

Unhappy is the man for evermair
That tills the sand and sawis in the air;
But twice unhappier is he, I lairn,
That feidis in his hairt a mad desire,
And follows on a woman throw the fire,
Led by a blind and teachit by a bairn. (sursa )

1599 – a murit Edmund Spenser, poet englez (n. 1552)
Lo I the man, whose Muse whilome did maske,
As time her taught in lowly Shepheards weeds,
Am now enforst a far unfitter taske,
For trumpets sterne to chaunge mine Oaten reeds,
And sing of Knights and Ladies gentle deeds; (sursa)

I returned to my golden playgrounds,
I returned to my white boyhood trail,
I returned to see the wondrous palace,
Built just for me by love’s divine ways. (sursa )

Ea cîntă şi natura păru că se îmbată.
A nopţii stea de aur în sînul unui nor

Tresar d-un sînt amor ! (sursa )
